To really impress your significant other, spend an evening splurging on a dinner at Sabur. The food justifies the price, and the decor is designed to try to give you an inferiority complex. They bill themselves ìExotic Mediterranean Cuisine,î and the menu includes dishes like ìSea Scallops in Puff Pastry with Mushrooms & Asparagus, Sauternes Butter.î With an impressive array of appetizers and desserts to complement the mostly seafood entrees, youíll be adding the expensive kind of cholesterol to your arteries. If you get a heart attack from all the Sauternes butter, at least you know youíll be dying classy. Sabur is located on 212 Holland Street and meals are in the $22 range. -- Tufts Observer
The newest kid on the block is this Thai restaurant. Though open for business, the restaurant has yet to have its grand opening. The decoration is sparse, but you can already tell that the ambiance is meant to be on the dim, fancy side. Their current temporary menu is quite large even though they say that the final menu will have even more to offer. They already serve everything from the generic Pad Thai and satay sticks to ball ball noodle soup and the spiciest variety of green curry. From what I've sampled, the food tastes as authentic as a fancy Bangkok street stalls. I'm definitely looking forward to their expanded menu, and hope they'll include more dessert options. Tip Top Thai is located on 1127 Broadway and meals will cost approximately $8. -- Tufts Observer
For a slightly more upscale Italian venue, Amelia's kitchen offers all of your garden-variety pizzas and pastas, as well as appetizers, panini, salads, and steak or chicken from the grill. The restaurant is homey enough for a lunch with friends, and is also dimly lit enough for a romantic dinner for two. The names of the dishes are complicated so you can feel like you're eating in fancy restaurant, but the ingredients are straightforward so experimentation is kept to a minimum. The ambiguously titled "Arrabiata" is really only penne topped by a spicy marinara sauce with caramelized onions and capers. Amelia's Kitchen is located on 1137 Broadway and an average meal will run you about $15. -Tufts Observer
More of a deli than a coffee shop, the cafe serves sandwiches inspired by the cuisine of various cities around the world: the Bombay has Tandoori turkey, and the Saigon has sweet chili/fish sauce. The latter is the closest thing to a real Vietnamese ìBanh Miî sandwich you can get without going all the way to Chinatown. The cafe also serves breakfast, coffee, pastries, grilled sandwiches, and prepared foods. Answer the daily trivia written on the whiteboard, and you get nothing but the satisfaction of knowing youíre smarter than the average bear. Soleil Cafe is located on 1153 Broadway and a meal will usually cost around $9. -- Tufts Observer
